Elsewedy Develops an Industrial and Logistics City in New Damietta Through the Industrial Developer System

New Administrative Capital – March 6, 2025 – In the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry, and Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, CEO and Managing Director of Elsewedy Electric, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Elsewedy Electric and the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport. This agreement aims to establish a fully integrated industrial and logistics city under the industrial developer model that is located west of Damietta Port in New Damietta.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Amr Mostafa, Managing Director of the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport; Eng. Mohamed El Kammah, CEO of Infrastructure Investments at Elsewedy Electric; Eng. Mohamed Fathy, Advisor to the Minister for Land and Maritime Transport; Eng. Amr El Sawaf, General Manager of Egytech Cables; along with several other senior executives.

The MoU outlines the establishment of a company dedicated to developing and operating a fully integrated industrial and logistics city under the industrial developer framework in New Damietta, west of the port. Elsewedy Industrial Development will be responsible for master planning, infrastructure networks, utilities, and the overall industrial development. This aims to attract investments across strategic sectors such as food processing, automotive, engineering, and petrochemicals.

The city’s first major investment will be the construction of a subsea cable factory by Elsewedy Electric, with a total investment of up to $500 million and spanning 500,000 square meters. This makes the factory the sixth facility of its kind globally and marks it the first in the Middle East. Moreover, it positions it as a strategic addition to the global energy transmission and infrastructure sectors. The factory will support the deployment of subsea cables between continents which will strengthen Egypt’s role as a regional hub for advanced industries.

A key feature of the factory is a colossal tower—one of the tallest in the world for submarine cable production which rises over 180 meters. It plays a critical role in enabling deep and highly efficient cable manufacturing processes. The facility will operate as a primary export hub, with 100% of its output dedicated to international markets, reinforcing Egypt’s economy and solidifying the country’s status as a main supplier of subsea cables across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Subsea cables are vital arteries for intercontinental and international connectivity in diverse sectors such as renewable energy transmission and petroleum applications. This makes them pivotal to the global economy and infrastructure development. Moreover, the factory empowers Egypt to offer advanced global solutions to support these sectors.

Eng. Mohamed El Kammah, CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development, commented:  “This project represents an unprecedented model in developing industrial zones in strategic new locations. It strengthens economic integration and creates an attractive environment for advanced industries and both local and international investors. Establishing an industrial city within Damietta Port is the first of its kind in Egypt, offering unmatched competitive advantages by merging manufacturing with logistics in one location which will reduce transport costs and increase production and export efficiency.”

Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy added: “The signing of this MoU marks a transformative step in the development of industrial and logistics cities. The project aims to create a qualitative leap in Egypt’s industrial sector by providing a competitive environment for key industries such as renewable energy, automotive, petrochemicals, and advanced engineering.”

This initiative marks a pivotal step in establishing New Damietta as a global industrial and logistics base that aligns with Egypt’s 2030 Vision, which seeks to enhance economic diversification, promote exports, and attract new investments.

Through this project, Elsewedy Electric reinforces its position as a leader in infrastructure and advanced industry development, while contributing to Egypt’s emergence as a global center for industry and logistics.
