Cairo, February 4, 2025 – In the presence of H.E. Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Mr. Wael Hanafy, Deputy CEO of Telecom Egypt, Elsewedy Communications Cables inaugurated its new factory at Elsewedy Industrial City “Industira East” in 10th of Ramadan City. The factory is now the largest communications cables manufacturing facility in the Middle East. This markes a significant step in the company’s commitment to strengthening the telecommunications sector and supporting local industry.
The inauguration was also attended by Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, CEO and Managing Director of Elsewedy Electric; Eng. Mohamed Elsewedy, Deputy CEO and CEO of the Wires and Cables Sector; Eng. Mohamed El Kammah, CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development; and Eng. Mohamed Amin, General Manager of Elsewedy Communications Cables Factory, in addition to senior officials from the industrial and telecommunications sectors.
Commenting on the opening, Eng. Mohamed El Kammah stated:
“We are proud that Elsewedy Industrial City ‘Industira East’ has been selected as the home for the largest communications cable factory in the Middle East. This substantial investment reflects the great confidence Elsewedy Group places in the efficiency of our infrastructure, the quality of our services, and our investment environment that fosters industrial growth. We remain committed to further developing our industrial ecosystem according to the highest global standards, reinforcing Egypt’s attractiveness as a prime destination for industrial and technological investments, all while supporting the country’s digital transformation and sustainable development plans.”
On this occasion, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy affirmed that the factory represents a significant milestone in Egypt’s telecommunications industry, as the first fully integrated communications solutions factory in Egypt and the Middle East. It aims to enhance local production and reduce dependence on imports by localizing numerous telecommunications products and solutions, which are considered strategic commodities in digital transformation, data centers, smart city systems, smart transportation, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications networks. Moreover, the factory is set to export 50% of its production capacity to global markets including Europe, Africa, and the Gulf region. Looking ahead to phase two, the company aims to increase production capacity and localize the technology of fiber network manufacturing through partnerships with leading global firms in the field.
During the tour, the Minister highlighted the importance of the industrial developer model, describing it as one of the most successful experiences in the Egyptian market and a leading example of public-private partnership. He emphasized its role in helping the state achieve its strategic objectives; particularly the deepening of local manufacturing and the increase of value-added exports. This is made possible through the provision of a comprehensive suite of business development services to industrial investors, including industrial zone planning and infrastructure development, marketing and promotion, zone management and operation, and facilitating communication with government entities. In case where an investor requires assistance, the developer steps in to help secure necessary permits and licenses.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging the services of the National Accreditation Council under the Ministry of Industry, particularly for accrediting the laboratories at the Elsewedy factory. This would support the factory’s ability to export its products to international markets, as the Council is recognized as an official accreditation body for conformity assessment entities and laboratories across many countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport also inspected the various production lines during his tour of the factory. These included the copper telecommunications cable production line, the accessories and cabinet manufacturing line, and the fiber optic cable production line, as well as the factory’s laboratories.
The factory spans 70,000 square meters and boasts a production capacity of 4 million kilometers of fiber optic cables and 200,000 kilometers of copper telecommunications cables, including network cables, telephone cables, coaxial cables, as well as copper and fiber optic network accessories, communication cabinets, and racks. This makes it the largest factory of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East, utilizing the latest European production technology. The project involves investments of up to EGP 2 billion and is expected to create over 1,000 job opportunities in its first phase.
This step is part of Elsewedy Telecom Cables’ broader strategy to expand and strengthen its manufacturing capabilities, in alignment with Egypt’s 2030 Vision to develop the industrial sector and support the country’s digital transformation efforts.
